ZAFINA…WINS!
Yep. I won the last preliminary round of the Madman National Cosplay Competition at AVCon! Well happy with that as you can imagine!

There were also some awesome performances from James and Callum (Does anyone have their DA?) and together I think this round treated AVCon audience with some awesome entertainment! There was screaming, intricate sets and props, striking poses, comedy and CLAWS….OH THE CLAWS! I was really honoured to be up there alongside the cosplayers of this round; thank you guys.

On a related note: I made an Instructable on my ASHPD and entered it in the Hurricane Lasers comp; it has been shortlisted from 1124 entries to the final 31! How awesome! Who will be there at the MNCC Finals in November?

Operations may have prevented me from entering Madman last year, but not this year! MWAHAHAH!

....yeah.

So i've entered as Zafina from Tekken 6. I'm doing the Mitsumi Inomata version full of flowers and butterfly tops and the like.



What with her wiggly hips and game opening remarks like "Leave now if you value your life!" I thought it could be fun.
Obviously i'm entering the AVCon round; the last one...and apparently the round is set to be one of the biggest this year entrant number wise, I think I have my work cut out for me.
Yikes.

To my surprise (and much delight!) i'm very almost finished the costume! With my AV due this Sunday i've got a bit of work to do but it is all coming together well. Hopefully everyone enjoys the skit!


On a slightly unrelated note...FINAL FANTASY DISTANT WORLDS IN ADELAIDE THIS NOVEMBER! WOOOOO!
Bought tickets in November last year...I saw the concert at the Opera House last year in April and must see it again. Especially since my Rinoa cosplay didn't work out...was going to do the SeeD ball dress but it didn't happen the way I wanted to...was making the shoes and everything! Oh the shame.

So the Portal Gun was presented at the Australian Network for Art and Technology (ANAT) 3D Printing Forum!
A proper write up on the construction was obviously due!

I really need to do a shoot with my Chell costume...i'm working on it!
In the mean time, i'm trying to wrangle being in Melbourne for Supanova...though it may only be for the Friday and Saturday. Fingers crossed!

Just a quick run down:

Portal Gun - 3D model ripped from the game, then my boyfriend fixed strange bits, and made them 'print friendly'. Then sent them to Shapeways for 3D printing. See them here - www.shapeways.com/shops/jarlyp…

Portal Boots - Pleaser brand heels with calf wrap made from fiberglass. The springs were made using glass cloth, as well as a carbon / Kevlar weave for flexibility and strength. They're attached with bolts to the calf.

Jumpsuit - Made from a jacket and pants pattern, with stitched lines for detail and knee patches in a different fabric.


None of it would have happened without the help of my boyfriend Justin who practically gave up his life for the construction of this cosplay. I owe him many things.

OH YEAH!

Can’t wait! Really REALLY can’t wait! Have tickets to the Friday night performance. (15th) That’s Friday week. AWESOME. Justin gave them to me as a Birthday / Christmas present last year. SOOO GOOD!

Not so awesome; I neglected to book flights earlier. As it stands, it is going to be around $800 to get myself and my boyfriend to Sydney and back. This is a little bit of a bugger. Anyone have any friends in airlines? O.o

So I’m cosplaying, but appropriately I think. I also think there is a pretty good chance I’ll be in the same dress as other attendees….! Cosplay  includes making a pair of shoes. And this time they won’t be made of flexible urethane, thank goodness! Good old satin, leather and plastic will be used. Now I just need to work out how to do it!

Will be doing Rinoa’s dress from the Seed Graduation Ball.  Could totally do that dance sequence if I had someone to dance it with!
  

Since I can’t find any accurate copies of these shoes, I will be making them from scratch. Wish me luck! I’ll have to be reading up on any online tutes and getting as many books as possible to make this happen!!! (any hints however, please share!)
